This unique type of tent was designed to be free from any inner structural support for the purpose of accommodating a large number of guests. As the tent is located in a desert camp in the middle of the Arabian Peninsula, the tough weather had to be well studied and considered in the early design stage. Targeting such a goal in mind, a 150Km/H wind speed was considered for wind load and tight fabric details were carefully reviewed for the tent roof and side walls to prevent any water or dust leakage. Furthermore, a strong, thick material fabric was used to resist the extremely hot sun rays and strong winds.
The tent covers an area of 1200 sqm. Galvanized steel cables (pre-stressed) were used (similar to those used in suspension bridges) for suspending the tent from the top. This giant tent was designed with a length of 60m and width of 20m, with a height of 15m to emphasize the outer strength stretching the tent. A heavy PVC material was used for the roof and sidewalls to create a masterpiece in the middle of the desert.
