The roof steel structure spans up to 70 meters unsupported, using custom-fabricated planar trusses, built-up box girders, circular columns, and octagonal supports. The façade system consists of 1080 white PTFE rhomboid panels, mounted on a three-dimensional cable net suspended from flying pipes. This design ensures optimal light diffusion while maintaining structural integrity and resistance to wind load and thermal expansion.

The exterior design of King Fahad National Library combines cultural symbolism with modern engineering. Its white PTFE membrane panels, inspired by traditional Arabian tents, provide effective sun shading while allowing soft natural light into the building. This reduces glare and lowers energy consumption. The tensile structure also offers excellent thermal insulation, helping maintain indoor comfort in Riyadh’s harsh climate. At night, the illuminated facade transforms the library into a glowing cultural beacon. The design supports natural airflow and adds a strong visual identity to the urban landscape. Overall, the façade merges function, tradition, and innovation in a striking architectural form.
