Jeddah Water Treatment Plant

Industrial Tensile Canopy Solutions

As part of a broader initiative to improve environmental safety and operational efficiency, the National Water Company commissioned tensile canopy structures within Jeddah’s main wastewater treatment facility. The goal was to implement a durable and functional shading system that would support odor control, reduce thermal load, and protect critical equipment zones. These canopies were placed over biological basins, chemical tanks, and other sensitive areas of the plant, aligning with the client’s vision of integrating sustainable design into utility infrastructure.

Installation Considerations

Executing this project within a live treatment facility demanded exceptional logistical planning and safety coordination. All components were fabricated off-site and delivered in pre-assembled segments, enabling swift on-site installation without disrupting plant operations. Tamimi’s installation team coordinated closely with plant engineers, applying confined space entry procedures, gas detection systems, and safety barriers around all active process areas. Mobile cranes and scaffold systems were used to lift and align the membrane structures with minimal interference to the ongoing utility processes.

Environmental & Functional Impact

  • The tensile canopy system brought multiple operational and environmental benefits. By shading exposed tanks and basins, the structures helped reduce water evaporation and thermal stress, contributing to better control over chemical dosing and biological reactions. Additionally, the covered zones significantly minimized the spread of unpleasant odors to surrounding areas, enhancing overall environmental compliance. Visually, the system also introduced a cleaner, more organized appearance to the industrial site, aligning with the city's modernization goals.
